What This Bill Does

Restricts Texas foster care agencies from requiring foster homes to disclose specific details about weapons in their homes, and prevents agencies from using such information for purposes beyond safety assessments. The legislation makes weapon-related information in foster homes confidential and establishes a potential $5,000 civil penalty for agencies that improperly use or disclose this information. If an agency violates the confidentiality requirements, they could face legal action by the attorney general, with the new rules taking effect on September 1, 2025.
