What This Bill Does

The Texas Farm and Ranch Lands Conservation Program bill establishes a comprehensive framework for protecting agricultural lands through conservation easements, focusing on preserving land use potential while addressing environmental conservation goals. The program prioritizes lands at risk of development, with grant criteria that consider factors like watershed integrity, wildlife habitat protection, potential for additional funding, and agricultural productivity. Landowners can apply for grants to maintain their agricultural lands' ecological and economic value, with easements designed to protect water quality, native wildlife species, rare plants, and prevent land fragmentation.
