What This Bill Does
This Texas bill expands criminal prosecution for sexually explicit visual material involving minors, specifically targeting artificially generated or modified images that are virtually indistinguishable from actual children. The legislation makes it illegal to create, promote, or possess computer-generated or AI-created visual content that appears to depict minors in sexual situations, even if no real child was used in the image's creation. The bill applies to images that use a real person's recognizable characteristics or a child's image in creating the visual material, and it will take effect on September 1, 2025.
