What This Bill Does

This Texas bill requires school districts to immediately notify parents if their child engages in, expresses intent to engage in, or shows signs of self-harm. Self-harm is broadly defined, including actions like suicidal thoughts, self-mutilation, high-risk sexual behavior, gender dysphoria, substance abuse, and other potentially harmful behaviors. School employees who fail to report such incidents could face disciplinary action, including suspension or termination, with the law taking effect in the 2025-2026 school year.
