What This Bill Does

Allows current or former federal law enforcement agents to serve as armed security officers in public schools in Texas. It also permits the governor-appointed chief of school safety and security to carry a weapon on school grounds if they are a commissioned peace officer or authorized federal law enforcement agent. The legislation expands who can provide armed security in schools and provides legal protection for these individuals carrying weapons on school premises, starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
