What This Bill Does

Allows county commissioners courts in counties with at least 350,000 residents to establish and enforce uniform work hour rules for department heads, deputies, assistants, and other employees whose compensation is set or approved by the commissioners court. The legislation gives county leadership more flexibility in managing employee work schedules and provides a standardized approach to setting work hours across county departments. The bill would take effect either immediately with a two-thirds legislative vote or on September 1, 2025, if that threshold is not met.
