What This Bill Does

Here's a concise summary of the bill: This Texas bill establishes comprehensive guidelines for human sexuality education in public schools, requiring medically accurate, age-appropriate curricula that cover topics like consent, sexual health, gender identity, and relationship skills. The bill mandates that school districts provide sexuality education at specified grade levels, with provisions for parental opt-out and curriculum transparency, while emphasizing abstinence and providing information about pregnancy prevention and sexually transmitted infections. The legislation affects public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools, requiring them to develop detailed sexuality education programs that include discussions of healthy relationships, personal boundaries, Title IX protections, and reproductive health, with the goal of providing students with comprehensive, scientifically-based sexual health information.
