What This Bill Does

This Texas bill establishes regulations for artificial intelligence (AI) mental health services, requiring that such services be provided only through commission-approved applications and with direct oversight from licensed mental health professionals. The legislation mandates that AI mental health service providers must obtain informed consent from users, ensure professional supervision, and maintain ethical standards that prevent discrimination and protect patient safety. The bill impacts mental health service providers, AI technology developers, and patients seeking mental health support through AI platforms, creating a structured framework for the responsible deployment of AI counseling and therapy services in Texas starting September 1, 2025.
