What This Bill Does

Modifies the definition of a "regular eligible student" for school transportation funding purposes. Students who live two or more miles from their school campus, measured by the shortest public road route, will qualify for transportation allotment, regardless of their attendance zone. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Section 48.151(b)(1), Education Code, is amended
(1)  "Regular eligible student" means a student who:
(A)  resides two or more miles from the student's
campus of regular attendance, regardless of whether the student
resides in the attendance zone of that campus, measured along the
shortest route that may be traveled on public roads, and who is not
classified as a student eligible for special education services; or
(B)  is a homeless child or youth, as defined by 42
SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
