What This Bill Does
Expands the definition of political advertising to explicitly include mass text message campaigns, which are defined as organized efforts sending multiple text messages about a candidate, political party, or measure that involve expenditures beyond basic technology costs. The legislation requires that such mass text message campaigns involving financial spending be classified and regulated as political advertising, potentially impacting political communication strategies and transparency for campaigns, political organizations, and individual activists who use text messaging to influence elections.
