What This Bill Does
Strengthens protections for nurses by establishing a mandatory reporting process for hospital staffing and creating safeguards against workplace retaliation. Hospitals must now develop nurse staffing committees, report staffing data to state health authorities, and cannot punish nurses who report violations or provide information about staffing issues. The legislation allows the Health and Human Services Commission to investigate complaints, issue corrective action plans, and impose administrative penalties on hospitals that violate these new requirements.
