Relating to the requirement of a school district to notify a parent of curriculum or instructional material containing religion or BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 26.010, Education Code, is amended by adding Subsections (c), (c-1), and (c-2) to read as follows: (c) Before each school year, and a week prior to any specific instruction, a school district shall provide through personal delivery, mail, or electronic mail, written notice to a parent of each student enrolled in the district of any curriculum, instructional material, or school activity providing instruction on religion or religious values, including references to: (1) religious literature or texts; (3) religious sects or orders; (7) a particular religion's impacts on history; or (8) religious institutions, partnerships, associations, corporations, or a department, division, or section (c-1) A notice under this section must include: (1) a statement informing the parent of the requirements of instruction containing religion or religious (2) a detailed description of the content of the district's instruction containing religion or religious values and a general schedule on which the instruction will be provided; (3) a statement of the parent's right to: (A) at the parent's discretion, review or purchase a copy of curriculum materials as provided by Section (B) remove the student from any part of the district's instruction containing religion or religious values without subjecting the student to disciplinary action, academic penalty, or other sanction imposed by the district or the student's (C) use the grievances procedure as provided by Section 26.011 concerning a complaint of a violation of this (c-2) A parent may use the grievance procedure adopted under Section 26.011 concerning a complaint or a violation of this SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
