What This Bill Does
Allows judges in Texas-Mexico border counties to refer specific criminal trespass cases involving individuals not lawfully present in the United States to an associate judge. Counties can request reimbursement from the Texas Judicial Council for the associate judge's and interpreter's salaries using border security funds. The bill aims to help border counties manage criminal proceedings related to immigration-related offenses more efficiently, with the reimbursement mechanism providing financial support for these judicial resources.
