What This Bill Does
Allows Texas high schools to offer an optional one-semester elective course for 12th-grade students focusing on community safety and firearm safety. The course would be split into two parts: the first half covering family violence and sexual assault prevention education, and the second half providing firearm safety instruction, including state and federal firearm laws and basic handgun proficiency information. The course would be available starting in the 2026-2027 school year, and students must complete the first half before enrolling in the second half, with provisions to connect students to support resources if they disclose experiencing family violence or sexual assault.
