What This Bill Does
This Texas bill creates a new criminal offense for improper entry into the state from a foreign nation, targeting individuals who are not U.S. citizens who enter Texas outside of designated immigration checkpoints, evade inspection, or use false information to enter. First-time offenders would face a Class A misdemeanor, with penalties escalating to felony charges for repeat offenses based on prior criminal history, potentially resulting in second-degree or first-degree felony charges depending on the individual's previous convictions. The bill aims to enhance state-level immigration enforcement and discourage unauthorized border crossings.
