BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 311, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 311.007 to read as follows:
Sec. 311.007.  REFERENCES TO MEXICAN FREE-TAILED BAT.  (a)  A
reference in law to the Mexican free-tailed bat is a reference to
(b)  For purposes of this section, "Texas free-tailed bat"
means the species Tadarida brasiliensis.
SECTION 2.  Subchapter B, Chapter 312, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 312.017 to read as follows:
Sec. 312.017.  REFERENCES TO MEXICAN FREE-TAILED BAT.  (a)  A
reference in law to the Mexican free-tailed bat is a reference to
(b)  For purposes of this section, "Texas free-tailed bat"
means the species Tadarida brasiliensis.
SECTION 3.  Chapter 2051, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subchapter G to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER G.  NAME CHANGE TO TEXAS FREE-TAILED BAT
Sec. 2051.231.  DEFINITIONS.  In this subchapter:
(1)  "Local government" means a municipality, a county,
a special district or authority, or any other political subdivision
(2)  "State agency" means a department, commission,
board, office, or other agency of any branch of state government,
including an institution of higher education as defined by Section
Sec. 2051.232.  UPDATE OF GOVERNMENT MATERIALS.  (a)
Subject to Subsection (b) and not later than September 1, 2030, each
state agency and local government shall update the state agency's
or local government's publications and other materials to rename
the Mexican free-tailed bat as the Texas free-tailed bat.
(b)  A state agency or local government shall complete the
update required by Subsection (a) in a manner that does not incur
substantial expense to the state agency or local government.
Sec. 2051.233.  EXPIRATION.  This subchapter expires
SECTION 4.  It is not the intent of the legislature that the
changes in law made by this Act affect the application or
SECTION 5.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
