relating to requiring the election of the governing body of a taxing BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended by adding Section 180.011 to read as follows: Sec. 180.011. GOVERNING BODY OF TAXING AUTHORITY MUST BE ELECTED. (a) Notwithstanding any other law, the governing body of any governmental entity, including a political subdivision, with the authority to impose a tax must be elected. (b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a member of a governing body appointed by the governor. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
