relating to the appointment of a signature verification committee BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 87.027, Election Code, is amended by amending Subsection (a-1) and adding Subsection (a-2) to read as (a-1) A signature verification committee shall be appointed in the general election for state and county officers on submission to the early voting clerk of a written request for the committee (1) for a county with a population of less than 600,000, at least 15 registered voters of the county; or (2) for a county with a population of 600,000 or more, at least 250 registered voters of the county. (a-2) A [The] request submitted under Subsection (a-1) must be submitted not later than the preceding October 1, and a request submitted by mail is considered to be submitted at the time of its SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
