What This Bill Does

Establishes the Health Professions Workforce Coordinating Council, a new state-level body comprising representatives from multiple state agencies and appointed members, tasked with studying and developing strategic approaches to address healthcare workforce challenges in Texas. The council will compile comprehensive data on health professions, including graduation rates, workforce shortages, and labor statistics, and will prepare a biennial strategic plan that analyzes current and projected health professional needs, identifies workforce shortages, and proposes recommendations for education and workforce development. The bill also abolishes the previous statewide health coordinating council and nursing advisory committee, transferring their functions to this new coordinating council, with the goal of creating a more integrated and forward-looking approach to managing Texas' healthcare workforce.
