What This Bill Does

Requires the state to compensate counties for the cost of confining defendants charged with felonies who are not released on bail while awaiting trial. The compensation will apply to confinement costs starting January 1, 2026, helping to offset the financial burden on county jails for holding defendants who cannot post bail. The legislation aims to provide financial relief to counties for the expenses associated with pre-trial detention of felony defendants.
