relating to an elective course on automobile maintenance for public BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is amended by adding Section 28.015 to read as follows: Sec. 28.015. ELECTIVE COURSE ON AUTOMOBILE MAINTENANCE. (a) A school district may offer to students in grades 9 through 12 an elective course on automobile maintenance that meets the requirements for an elective credit under Section 28.025. (b) A course under this section must include instruction in (1) checking and refilling or replacing: (2) checking tire pressure and tire tread depth; (3) changing a tire, performing a tire rotation, and (4) battery maintenance, including the correct method (6) the meaning of common dashboard warning lights; (7) safe working practices in an automotive environment, including proper tool usage and safe disposal of SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
