What This Bill Does
The Texas Department of Transportation will establish a program allowing property owners adjacent to state highway rights-of-way to plant or replace vegetation within 500 feet of their property. Property owners can enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area or replace vegetation that reduces visibility, but they must cover all associated costs, use locally adapted plants, and ensure they do not interfere with public utility infrastructure. The program maintains the state's ability to use the right-of-way for road construction while giving property owners more control over landscaping near their land.
