What This Bill Does

Requires the Texas State Board of Education to update social studies curriculum by March 1, 2026, to include age-appropriate instruction on the history of persons with disabilities and the disability rights movement. This curriculum revision will ensure that students learn about the experiences, challenges, and achievements of people with disabilities across different grade levels, promoting greater understanding and awareness of disability history and rights.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Not later than March 1, 2026, the State Board of
Education shall revise the essential knowledge and skills for
social studies as necessary to require, as age and grade-level
(1)  the history of persons with disabilities; and
(2)  the disability rights movement in the United
SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
