What This Bill Does
Creates a voluntary $3 contribution option for individuals applying for or renewing driver's licenses, commercial driver's licenses, and personal identification certificates, with proceeds supporting a new grant program for nonprofit organizations that assist the Texas Department of Public Safety. These nonprofit organizations can receive grants to provide support for the department and its employees, with funds carefully regulated through an established account in the state treasury that is subject to comptroller audits. The program will take effect in 2026, allowing individuals to opt-in to contribute during their license application or renewal process.
