What This Bill Does

Changes the timing of automatic tax rate approval elections for school districts. Instead of using a uniform election date, school districts must now hold their tax rate election on the same day as the next general state and county election, ensuring sufficient time to meet legal requirements. The bill requires ballots to clearly show the proposed tax rate, percentage increase, and dollar amount of additional tax revenue, giving voters more transparent information about potential tax changes.

revenue in the preceding tax year) percent in maintenance and
operations tax revenue for the district for the current year as
compared to the preceding year, which is an additional $____
(insert dollar amount of increase in maintenance and operations tax
revenue under the adopted tax rate as compared to maintenance and
operations tax revenue in the preceding tax year)."
