What This Bill Does

Allows certain new educators (classroom teachers, librarians, counselors, and nurses) with less than five years of experience to receive salary step credit for at least five years if they are hired within one year of earning their degree by the district from which they graduated or at a campus in the same county. The legislation aims to provide more competitive compensation for new education professionals and potentially help districts retain recent graduates by offering enhanced salary recognition, with implementation set to begin in the 2025-2026 school year.
