What This Bill Does
Requires law enforcement agencies to provide the attorney general with all requested reports, including witness statements and criminal history, within 14 business days to help determine crime victims' compensation eligibility. These reports will assist the attorney general in evaluating claims and qualifying victims for potential compensation. The information provided to the attorney general will remain confidential and not be subject to public disclosure.

relating to requests for law enforcement agency reports from the attorney general related to crime victims' compensation BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Article 56B.054(f), Code of Criminal Procedure is Art. 56B.054(f) On request by the attorney general and not later than the 14th business day after the date of the request, a law enforcement agency shall release to the attorney general all reports, including witness statements and criminal history record information, to allow the attorney general to determine whether a claimant or victim qualifies for an award and the extent of the qualification. Information received by the attorney general under this subsection is not subject to release under Texas Government SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025.
