What This Bill Does
Repeals Section 21.06 of the Texas Penal Code, which previously criminalized homosexual conduct, effectively decriminalizing same-sex sexual activity in Texas. The bill also modifies language in health education materials, removing references to homosexual conduct being a criminal offense while maintaining an emphasis on sexual abstinence and heteronormative relationship standards. The legislation removes legal penalties for consensual same-sex sexual activity and updates educational materials to reflect changes in legal status, impacting LGBTQ+ individuals and sexual education programming across the state.
