What This Bill Does

Expands cancer benefit claims for firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs), covering cancers originating in specific body parts like the stomach, colon, rectum, skin, prostate, testis, and brain, as well as cancers potentially caused by professional exposure to heat, smoke, radiation, or known carcinogens. The legislation allows affected first responders to more easily seek benefits or compensation for job-related cancer diagnoses, providing critical support for those who have developed cancer potentially linked to their professional duties. The bill would take effect immediately with a two-thirds legislative vote, or on September 1, 2025, if that threshold is not met.
