What This Bill Does
This Texas bill modifies criminal prosecution for child pornography offenses by clarifying legal language around possession and promotion of visual materials depicting minors in sexual conduct. The bill updates statutory definitions to remove certain knowledge requirements, potentially making prosecution easier by reducing the burden of proving the defendant's explicit intent. The legislation also establishes new protocols for handling such materials during criminal proceedings, including restrictions on public dissemination and discovery processes, with the changes applying to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
