What This Bill Does
This Texas bill requires retailers to label beef, pork, and related products with their country of origin, both on packaged items and in display cases. Retailers who fail to provide clear origin labeling will face a $1,000 daily civil penalty, which can be enforced by the attorney general, who can also recover investigation and legal expenses. The law takes effect September 1, 2025, giving businesses time to update their labeling practices.
