What This Bill Does

This Texas bill allows school districts and charter schools to install and operate school bus infraction detection systems with cameras to catch drivers illegally passing stopped school buses. The systems can capture video and photographic evidence of traffic violations, and these districts can now issue civil or criminal citations based on the recorded images from these cameras. The bill provides a specific exemption to previous restrictions on using automated traffic enforcement systems, specifically for protecting students during school bus stops.
