What This Bill Does

Allows relatives or designated caregivers who have a child placed with them by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to receive the child's support rights and benefits directly. The legislation enables these caregivers to be assigned the child's support rights and become the representative payee for programs like Supplemental Security Income (SSI), ensuring they can access financial resources to support the child's care. By facilitating this process, the bill aims to provide more direct financial support to family members or caregivers who are taking responsibility for a child in the state's substitute care system.
